Pet Policy Overview

Etihad Airways, based in Abu Dhabi, allows small cats and dogs to travel in the cabin on eligible Etihad-operated flights, subject to advance approval, route restrictions, and destination rules. Pets must be at least 16 weeks old and weigh no more than 8 kg including the carrier. Larger pets, restricted routes, or animals that do not qualify for cabin travel may still need to move through cargo or a specialist pet shipper.

Pro Tip

Submit Etihad's pet booking form and required travel documents at least seven days before departure, then email all required documents at least 72 hours before the flight. If you are flying to Abu Dhabi, arrange the UAE release permit and health certificate before travel. For Business Class, call Etihad before booking because pet-friendly seats are limited and an extra seat is required.

Restrictions

Cabin pets are not accepted on every route. Etihad lists pet restrictions for Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Maldives, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam. Pets must be in an approved carrier, stay with you in the same cabin, and meet all destination import rules. Banned dog breeds and pregnant animals are not accepted.
